The Beach at the 17³Ô¹ÏÍø dedicated its East Campus today to Robert Linlithgow "Bob" Livingston Jr., former U.S. Representative from Louisiana, with a sign unveiling and reception attended by community members and dignitaries including U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu. 17³Ô¹ÏÍø President Kathy Johnson was among the speakers at the dedication, highlighting Livingston’s decades of leadership and influence in Louisiana politics.
Livingston, who represented Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District from 1977 to 1999, served as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee during his final years in Congress. Known for his advocacy on behalf of the U.S. Navy and his efforts to secure federal investment in New Orleans, Livingston was recognized at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø for his contributions to military innovation and economic development in the region.
A New Orleans native, Livingston studied at Tulane University and Tulane Law School before beginning a career in public service and law that eventually led him to Congress. He was elected in 1977 following a special election and went on to serve 11 consecutive terms. During his tenure, he played a central role in shaping federal spending priorities and was considered one of the most influential Louisiana lawmakers of his era.
The dedication of the Bob Livingston East Campus included the unveiling of a monument commemorating his legacy, followed by a reception with attendees from across the state.
